Bertis A. Barber
Bertis A. Barber, 90, of 4240 Laser Road died Tuesday evening in Crestwood Care Center after a long illness.
She was born March 26, 1903, in Yale, KY, to John Willis and Emmer Newkirk Staton.
Mrs. Barber was a homemaker and a member of First Church of God. She was a well-known quilter, having quilted more than 500 quilts.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Barber, whom she married Sept. 19, 1919; three sons and daughters-in-law: Winford and Dorothy Barber and Elwood and Jean Barber, all of Mansfield, and Eugene and Barbara Barber of Woodburn, IN; two daughters and a son-in-law: Mildred and Harry Sturdavant of Baldin, MI, and Marie Robinson of Shelby; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters: Murray Barber and Lois Barber; and a sister, Grace Adams.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, where services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. by her pastor, the Rev. Tim Schrock. Burial will be in
Colonial Memorial Gardens, Lexington.
