Bernard J. Gwirtz

Bernard J. Gwirtz, age 82, of 13 Vernon Road, Shelby, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the Crestwood Care Center after a short illness.

He was born January 3, 1923 in Crawford County, Ohio the son of the late George and Flossie (Garby) Gwirtz. Bernie retired from the Autocall Company in Shelby after 50 years of service; he also farmed. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #1968. He enjoyed playing bingo and fishing.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Barbara (Lybarger) Gwirtz, whom he wed on October 22, 1988; 2 brothers, Daniel Gwirtz of Saginaw, MI and Eugene Gwirtz of Mulberry, FL; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jim and Vada Lybarger of Shelby; Nieces, nephews and cousins. He was especially fond of 2 nephews, Pryce and Brady Lybarger. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Carl and Herbert Gwirtz.

Friends may call on Friday, February 18, 2005 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10: 00 AM at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to St. Mary School.
