Beda Marie (Kempf) Phillips
Beda Marie Phillips, age 81, of Shelby, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Med Central Mansfield Hospital.
She was born October 28, 1929 in Shelby the daughter of the late George C. and Martha M. (Verhoff) Kempf. Beda was a 1947 graduate of Shelby High School. Beda was the assistant food service director for Shelby City Schools, retiring in December 1994. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir for many years, and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella. Beda loved flowers and enjoyed raising many varieties of African violets – at last count she had over sixty. She enjoyed music, playing the piano and participating in the local presentation of the Messiah. Beda was a devoted mother and grandmother and her greatest pleasures came from spending time with her girls.
Beda is survived by her husband: Charles R. Chuck Phillips, whom she wed on February 23, 1957; 5 daughters: Susan (Dale) Black of Toledo, Karen (Jack) Brumenschenkel of Shelby, Sally Phillips of Shelby, Kelly (Dan) Wurm of Mansfield, Mary (Marc) Rodrigues of Shelby; 3 granddaughters: Emily Wurm, Rachel Brumenschenkel and Morgan Brumenschenkel; 2 step grandsons; a step great grandson; a sister: Irma (Vince) Studer of Shelby; 2 Sisters-in-law: Catherine Kempf of Ontario, Helen Kempf of Fairborn; a brother-in-law: Lloyd Seitz of Shelby. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers: Carl Kempf, Edgar Kempf, a sister: Jeannette Seitz.
Friends may call on Friday, March 11, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, where the rosary will be recited by the Daughters of Isabella at 3:45 PM and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 AM at Most Pure Heart Of Mary Catholic Church with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
