Avery McClain, age 71, of 34 Clark Avenue, Shelby, died early this morning in Mansfield General Hospital after a short illness. He was born September 15, 1917 in Morehead, Kentucky, the son of Luster and Nancy (Black) McClain.
Mr. McClain retired after 28 years of seryice from the Ohio Steel Tube Co. in 1980. He was a member of the Tiro United Baptist Church and was a veteran of WWII.
Mr. McClain is survived by his wife, Bertha (Creech) McClain, whom he married on August 31, 1946; 2 sons: Randy McClain at home, and Danny McClain of Shelby; 3 daughters: Mrs. Gary (Donna) Blanton, Mrs. Roy (Diana) Leedy, and Mrs. Adrian (Rhonda) Johnson all of Shelby; 6 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchilren; 4 brothers: Earsel McClain of Madison, WV, Chester McClain of Yorktown, Indiana, Leslie McClain and Virgil McClain both of Shelby.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10:30 A.M. at the Turner Funeral home with the Rev. S.T. Adkins his pastor and the Rev.Charles Pentecost of the Church Of God Of Prophecy in Bucyrus, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby where military graveside services will be conducted by the Shelby American Legion. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tiro United Baptist Church building fund and left at the funeral home.
