Atlanta Pearl “Lana” (Brown) Sergent

Atlanta Pearl Lana Sergent, age 84, of 8247 State Route 61, Plymouth, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Med Central Shelby Hospital.

She was born August 14, 1920 in Morehead, Kentucky the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Sarah Alice (McFarland) Brown. She attended Berean Bible College in Dallas, Texas and was a homemaker. She was a former employee of the Leland Hotel and Therma Disc in Mansfield and the Shelby Country Club. She also was a school bus driver for Plymouth-Shiloh Schools. She attended the Shelby Church of God. Lana loved arts & crafts, gardening and bible studies. She was a nutritionist, always giving advice on healthy eating habits, and was known to harvest dandelions, woolly breeches, mouse’s ear and plantain for a fantastic salad.

Lana is survived by 3 daughters, Luena and Granville Brown of Shelby, Alice and Theodore Sagle of Shelby and Sandra J. O’Connor of Mansfield; a son, Thomas Farmer and Cathy Sergent of Waco, TX; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ina Bisel of Shelby and Gloria and Robert McFarland of Mansfield; a sister-in-law, Elenor Brown of Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Farmer Sergent in 1994, a son, John David Hoff in 1977, a son-in-law, Rolland James O’Connor, a grandson, Sean Patrick O’Connor, 2 great grandsons, Troy Allen Kershner and Michael Kershner, a sister, Norma Jean Ramey and a brother, Miles Brown.

Friends may call on Thursday February 17, 2005, from 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby and also from 10-11:00 AM on Friday. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, with Pastor Rick Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to the Shelby Church of God.
