Arthur Leigh Boyce
Arthur Leigh Boyce, age 79, of 2433 Holtz Road , Shelby, died unexpectedly Saturday in Shelby Memorial Hospital after suffering and apparent Heart attack at home.
He was born April 9, 1915 in Mansfield the son of John William and Mabel (Richards) Boyce.
Mr. Boyce retired in 1980 from the Shelby Mutual Insurance Company. He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the choir , had been past choir director and was a past church council member.
Mr. Boyce had also been choir director at the First Christian Church in Shelby and the Main Street United Methodist Church in Mansfield. He had been active in the former Shelby minstrels and the Ganges Band.
Mr. Boyce was instrumental in working on the initial field facilities for the Shelby Little League and Pony League.
He was an Army – Air Corps veteran of WWII serving with the occupation forces in Japan. He was a member of American Legion Post #326 in Shelby.
He is survived by his wife LaDonna Reynolds Boudinot Boyce whom he married on September 9, 1989; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, John W. and Corina Boyce of Columbus and Robert L. and Beth Boyce of Katy, Texas; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 1 step-son , John Heyde of Chattanooga, Tennessee; 1 step-daughter, Sally Bamer of Uniontown, Ohio; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 brother, Richard Boyce of Mansfield;
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leota Pittenger Boyce in 1986.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday 4-9 P.M. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. June Fryman, officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery in Mansfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home.
