Amel Combs
Amel Combs, age 70, of 10 Morningside Drive, Shelby, died Tuesday morning at his home after an extended illness. He was born April 23, 1923 in Wayland, Kentucky the son of James and Laverne (Conley) Combs.
Mr. Combs retired as a supervisor from the Ohio Steel Tube Company in 1974. Prior to that he had worked in the coal mines in Kentucky. He was an avid golfer and was a Navy veteran of WWII.
Mr. Combs is survived by his wife Alene (Bailey) Combs, whom he married on November 24,1942; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Jeff Winters of Shelby; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Diane Combs of Mesa, Arizona;; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 2 brothers, Virgil Combs of Wayland, Kentucky and Savel Combs of South Shore, Kentucky; 3 sisters, Sadie Gibson and Florence Wheeler both of Shelby and Martha Slone of Crestline. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Claude Compton, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Shelby American Legion.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ashland County and left in care of the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street in Shelby.
