Alfred E. Cronin
Alfred E. Cronin, age 82, of rural Shelby, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at his home.
He was born April 14, 1927 in Zanesville, Ohio the son of the late Alfred D. and Edna (Burkhart) Cronin. Alfred was a Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Dobbin. On June 10, 1950 he married Gladys Atherton. He was a long time employee of the Westinghouse Company in Mansfield retiring in 1989. He enjoyed cooking, mowing the grass and working in the yard; however, his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family.
Alfred was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to his surviving wife: Gladys (Atherton) Cronin; 3 daughters: Deb and Tom Shank of Plymouth, Pam and Dan Hockley of Greenwich, and Mary and Bob Sheppard of Shelby; 5 grandchildren: Jeremy Shank, Dave Shank, Adam Hockley, Kip Sheppard and Kara Sheppard; 2 great grandchildren: Gabriella Shank and Hailey Sheppard. Also surviving are 2 sisters: Juanita Howell and Mary Dozer. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother James Cronin.
Calling hours will not be observed. Private family services will be held with burial in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Military honors will be conducted by the Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
